End of the Half-Year 2012: Part 2- The Year's Most Memorable Viral Videos (So Far!)

Welcome back to End of the Half-Year 2012. In case you missed part one yesterday, click here. The following is part two, in which I reveal my picks for the most memorable viral videos of the past six months. Enjoy.

Knocking down the list of all the great viral videos this year to just ten was an incredibly hard task, and yet I managed to do it anyways. I'm sure that each and every one of you reading this feel like you could've done better, so let's just get through with this...

"Mister Rodgers Remixed: Garden of Your Mind"
About two months ago, PBS Digital Studios created three minute autotuned song dedicated to the late and great childrens' television icon, Fred. Rodgers, in collaboration with mash-up artist John D. Boswell, who is a Rodgers fan himself. This video is sweet, heartfelt, and there's a good chance that it will make you smile...exactly what you might experience watching an episode of "Mister Rodgers' Neighborhood."

"Pete Weber GOD DAMMIT I DID IT WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE"
I'm guessing that this guy's happy over the victory.

"Will the Real Mitt Romney Please Stand Up? (feat.Eminem)"
"Who is the real Mitt Romney?" This was the question that many pundits and Republican primary opponents have asked of the former Massachusetts governor during this 2012 election season. For years, Romney has been known as a guy who will do anything and say anything in order to gain enough support to win people's votes without giving us his firm, specific views on many important issues. Well, a man by the name of Hugh Atkin decided to have fun with this question in a creative mash-up, borrowing the melody of Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady." The video features many of the man's greatest hits, from his rendition of "America the Beautiful" to him asking "Who let's the dog's out?" while taking pictures in Michigan a few years back. It's pretty well done, if only for the lines "While you other Mitt Romneys are just mass-debating."

"Arrested Drunk Guy Sings Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody"
In November of last year, Robert Wilkinson got arrested by the police for the intoxication. After spending minutes slurring an argument against his arrest, Wilkinson randomly decided to shift his focus into expressing his emotions through song, specifically through the famous Queen song "Bohemian Rhapsody." It obviously didn't work, but at least Wilkinson can take comfort knowing that he provided an entertaining six minutes to the police officer who was driving him into the station, as well as the 8 million plus who have watched it since the video was released online this past March.

"A Conversation With My 12 Year Old Self: 20th Anniversary Edition"
In the year 1992, filmmaker Jeremiah McDonald (then 12 years old) created a video providing one half of a conversation with his future self. Twenty years later, it was McDonald's 32 year old self who decided to complete the other half, with terrific results. Thanks in large part to some fantastic editing, McDonald was able to create a video that is both hilarious in its banter while also being an interesting look into the aspect of growing up and being older. And the best part? McDonald won't have to worry about anyone stealing his idea for this conversation until at least 2032.

"Kid tells the Heat 'Good job, good effort' after their Game 5 loss"
Sometimes, we all wish we could have such motivation in our lives.

"Isaac's Live Lip-Dub Proposal"
In the Internet's continued effort to create high expectations among women regarding marriage proposal, we have the case of Rob, who this past May, with the help of his brother and other enthusiastic volunteers, proposed to his girlfriend in choreographed lip-dub form (the first one ever to be recorded live, apparently). If this proposal is any indication of the two's marriage, I can safely say that they will have a great one.

"The Wire: The Musical"
Grant it, this is a viral video that will probably only be enjoyed by those who have actually seen the show (which isn't a whole lot), but I still feel like this deserves a mention on the list anyways. Very funny, filled with catchy songs, and featuring a great use of the show's many castmembers. Is it any wonder that even creator David Simon himself appreciated this parody?

"DollarShaveClub.com- Our Blades Are F***ing Great"
A fine commercial if there ever was one.

"KONY 2012"

Quality wise, there are probably dozens of videos that deserve a spot on this list for than the Kony 2012 promotional video. However, because of how big it was in its short period of relevancy, I feel that it must be included nonetheless.

Be sure to stop by for part three tomorrow. Until then, enjoy the rest of your Thursday.
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
