END OF THE WEEK:
April is here! In my opinion, April ranks one of the best among the twelve month calendar. The weather is juuust right, you can go back to doing stuff outside, and it's one of the best months of the sports calendar. Think about it, in this four week span you have the MLB season kicking off, the Masters, the end of the NHL season/beginning of the NHL playoffs, the NFL draft, the end of the NBA season/beginning of the NBA playoffs, and the NCAA men's and women's basketball championships. That's all four of the major professional sports organizations, the second biggest championship game in college and golf's biggest events all in one month, which is quite a great combo. In fact, it ranks right next with October for best month in the sports calendar, period.
So besides the fact that tax day falls on this period and that T.S. Elliot calls it "the cruelest month" with all the showers and all, it's still a pretty great time of the calendar.
So let's kick things off with a good ol' fashion random thoughts, shall we? The following are my picks for the best moments of the past seven days:
Prank of the Week That I Know Of (on account of the fact that April Fools Day occured this week):
On 04/01, two anonymous pranksters sent a fake rumor to The Big Lead.com claiming that they have a story claiming that they know who NY Jets QB Mark Sanchez's new girlfriend was, who they picked at random as model Katarina Ivanovska, and how they saw the two together at a gym. The website replied back, asking them if this was an April Fools Joke and whether the model has pictures. The two pranksters then claimed back with honesty that was real and even sended a few pictures. In the end, the website believed their claim and posted the fake story on their site that day:

A few hours later, the New York Post heard of the fake story posted at The Big Lead. Seeing that the information seemed credible, they ended up reporting it at their website in the Page Six section:

So there you have it, a story that was made by two people looking to pull a April Fools Day prank ended up making it as far as one of the country's biggest newspaper. The Google changing it's name to Topeka prank was pretty good, too, but once you read the bottom of their announcement page, it was immediately foiled. This one lasted for a full day without anyone thinking it might be a hoax.
Stories of the Week:
- The Actual Story of the Week: The Apple iPad Releases on Saturday
It will cost a ton of money and it will have a few malfunctions like most 1.0 devices will, but it has the shiny Apple logo on it, so you know people will come out in flocks to buy it the first day, even if it is just an oversized iPod touch.
- The Tiger Woods Saga of '09 Memorial Story of the Week: Ricky Martin Announces He's Gay
To be fair, this shouldn't be called "coming out of the closet," if the closet was made of glass for years.
Controversy of the Week: The "V" Countdown Clock During Tuesday's Episode of "Lost"
Nice job, ABC. You really needed "V," a show you were looking to be the next "Lost" after the show ends in June, to have some good ratings in their first episode back since the five month hiatus you gave them. And what did you do? You decided to piss off one of the most loyal TV fanbases, some saying they will not watch "V" thanks to that stupid clock. And you needed that audience, ABC. Plus, with that countdown clock you stooped to something that only NBC would've done (and they did a few years back with their countdown clocks to the premiere of "American Gladiators" and "Lipstick Jungle"). I don't watch "Lost," but I would also be angry for that happening if one of my favorite shows did this. Nice job, indeed.

Video of the Week: "Chat Rouletter Funny Piano Impov 2"
I love this guy.
Person of the Week: Apple
for releasing another expensive product (the iPad if you haven't heard already) that has flown of the shelves on its first day, making them even more filthy rich. So let's see, they have a popular phone, a popular computer, a popular mp3 player and now a popular tablet. Plus they made a TV a few years back. All they need now is to make a car and they will control the country as we know it.
And that's the way it is! Enjoy your Easter Sunday, everyone!
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
