RANDOM THOUGHTS:
No preamble this week. I'm just gonna go straight to it. The following were on my mind between Monday, April 19th and Monday, April 26th:
- It's back! Time now for the usual bi-monthly ranking of my favorite show, otherwise known as the TV top ten:
10. "The Simpsons" (tie) (still #10)
10. "Chuck" (tie)
9. ESPN's "30 for 30" (position previously held by "30 Rock")
8. "Community" (still #8)
7. "American Dad" (down from #5, position previously held by "Fringe")
6. "The Office" (down from #2, position previously held by "Modern Family")
5. "South Park" (down from #3, position previously held by "American Dad")
4. "The Pacific" (position previously held by "Parks and Recreations")
3. "Breaking Bad" (position previously held by "South Park")
2. "Parks and Recreations" (up from #2, position previously held by "The Office")
1. "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" (still #1)
Up from last list (March 2010): "The Pacific," "30 for 30," "Breaking Bad," "Parks and Recreations," "Chuck"
Down from last list (March 2010): "30 Rock," "Modern Family," "Fringe," "South Park," "The Office," "American Dad"
New from last list (March 2010): "Chuck," "30 for 30," "Breaking Bad," "The Pacific"
Just Barely Missed List: "30 Rock," "Treme," "Modern Family," "Modern Family," "House," "The Colbert Report," "The Life and Times of Tim"
Some notes on the list and future lists:
a. Very disappointing showings for "The Office" and "Modern Family." While shows like "Parks and Recreations," and "South Park" put on their best showing and with shows like "The Pacific," "30 for 30" (my vote for the year's best documentary series), and "Breaking Bad" premiered with fantastic results, the two didn't show didn't step up themselves.
b. Too early for me to put "Treme" on the list. But, I do have a good feeling that it will appear on the next list.
c. Haven't caught up with "Fringe" since they came back from their two month hiatus, which is why I put them off the list.
d. Why is "The Pacific," a newcomer, such high rated on my list? Well, the last three episodes had a lot to do with it, not to mention the $250 million that was well spent to make it, the great acting, and much more.
e. Overall, this was the toughest list I had to make. So many good shows premiering the past eight weeks, it's incredible. (sigh) if only the summers were as good.
f. Shows I didn't watch the past two months: "Fringe" (as mentioned), "Damages," "Justified," "Human Target," "Lost" (never did and probably never will until the series finale (I did this with other supposedly great/famous shows I never watched like "The Sopranos" blackout ending, "Friends," and "Will and Grace")).
g. I'm thinking late May/ early June for my next list. Set your calendars accordingly!
- If there is anyone who feels that the NL is better than the AL, consider these two comparisons:
Javier Vasquez last year with Atlanta (NL)
15 wins, 2.87 ERA, 238 Ks
Javier Vasquez through four starts with New York (AL)
1 win, 8.27 ERA, 15 Ks
Carlos Silva last year with Seattle (AL)
1 win, 8.60 ERA, 10 Ks
Carlos Silva through three starts with Chicago (NL)
2 wins, 0.95 ERA, 12 Ks
- First, it was the stoner "holiday" 420 on Tuesday. Then, it was Earth Day on Thursday. Geez, I guess last week really was Earth Day!
/knows joke is bad
/leaves room in disgust to self
- Last week, I was offered to send Roy Halladay (who is off to a crazy good start) for CC Sabbathia (okay, but not Halladay great) and I accidentally clicked "Accept Trade" instead of "Decline Trade." Now, I've lost my best pitcher and probably the best pitcher in baseball in a bonehead mistake. In other words, I am an idiot. On the bright side, I am currently first place in that league. So it's not so bad...right?
- First the bad climate to live in, then the hard to pronounce cities and geographical territories followed by Bjorn Borg, the economy going bankrupt, one of the volcanoes exploding and trapping all of Europe's airplanes, and now this. It is official: Iceland sucks.
- Possible reason Drew Brees agreed to be on the cover of Madden NFL '11:
a. he's sacrificing himself to the "Madden jinx" so other players don't have to.
b. he was begged to accept it, so he did, but only if the monry he receives went to Chris Johnson who really deserved it more than him.
c. Madden agreed to rename it "Madden NFL 1 A.D." since all of the previous coverees came before the Breesus. (Note: thanks to the commentors of KSK for that)
d. He was fullfilling a promise to Timmy Thomas (who was diagnosed with Timmy Thomas disease two falls ago) this past August to have an MVP caliber year. win a Super Bowl and appear at the cover at the same time.
e. Cause he's Drew f-in Brees, dude!
And with that stroke of the index finger ends another edition of "Random Thoughts." Be sure to come back for a new edition next Monday! Until then, it's time for another edtion of the "Zep-tastic Song of the Week." This week comes what many people call one of the band's best. It needs no introduction. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: "Achilles Last Stand":
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
