2009 NFL Predictions:Lucky Number 7

Due to my continual decrease in wins of which I am pretty sure was caused by the prediction gods who were mad by my cockiness during weeks 1-3, I will not start of this week's post with a long introduction. However, I could tell you that I finished with my worst record this season at 7-7, losing for the second time this year to dad (mj50) who had a 9-5 record. Instead, on to the picks we go!

Let's begin (note: all game times are based on the central time zone):

San Diego Chargers (-5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: San Diego
History is currently repeating themselves in San Diego as the Chargers once again are off to a mediocre start. This year, they have a 2-3 record through five games, the same record as last year. And just like last year they have the Denver Broncos ahead of them by three games. I'm starting to think that they may have planned this all along. Anyways, while the record has been dissapointing yet again for san Diego, I still see them beating the team they have won their last four meetings (even with the fact that they have played pretty well the last two weeks). In conclusion, I'm picking the Chargers in a close one, but I wouldn't be surprised if the other team will win (they probably still haven't forgot that embarrassing week 15 loss last year).
mj50's pick: Kansas City

Indianapolis Colts (-14) vs. St. Louis Rams: Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Indianapolis
If you have noticed, I have picked a Missouri team as the loser of my "Lock of the Week" game nearly 33% of the time. Sfter this post, it will have been 43% of the time. Why? Two reasons:
a. Indianapolis= 5-0 record
b. St. Louis= 0-6 record
Any questions?
mj50's pick: Indianapolis

Green Bay Packers (-9) vs. Cleveland Browns: Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Green Bay
Johnny Carson: You know, the Cleveland Browns are so bad...
Ed McMahon: How bad are they?
Johnny Carson: The Cleveland Browns are so bad, they've been
watching Oakland Raiders game so they can at least watching a winning team.
Ladies and gentleman, the best Johnny Carson-likejoke you'll read all season! But in all seriousness, the Browns are pretty bad. Which is why I'm picking Aaron Rodgers and the Pack to go to Browns Stadium and dominate.
mj50's pick: Green Bay

Minnesota Vikings vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Pittsburgh
If I told you that Ben Roethlesberger was leading the league in passing yards, who you believe me? Well, it's true! Also, if I told you that Antoine Winfield's inactiveness will be the big key, would you believe that, too? Well, that's true again! I mean, did you see the Baltimore- Minnesota game last week? Ray Rice was dominating rushing that side of the field once Winfield went down, and with the surprisingly hot Rashad Mendenhall playing, expect it to happen yet again. I'm taking the Steelers to finally give Brett Favre's first loss as a Viking.
mj50's pick: Pittsburgh

New England Patriots (-15) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
(at Wembley Stadium in London, England)
mj15's pick: New England
For those of you who haven't seen American football across the pond, we apologize that this is the game we will be showing you. In our defense, though, this game was scheduled in March, when the Bucs still had promise. Anyways, while the two other games in London have been close, I still see this one as a Patriots blowout. I mean, if they can score 59 points against a Titans team that should at this point have a better record, then they should have no problem against one of the league's worst teams.
mj50's pick: New England

San Fransisco 49ers vs. Houston Texans (-3): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Houston
I repeat: do not rule Houston out just yet! Hopefully, last week's win against Cincinnati and this week's soon-to-be win against the 49ers (who by the way can't find a way to beat teams in 12:00 games) will keep you on my side.
mj50's pick: Houston

New York Jets (-6) vs. Oakland Raiders: Sunday- 3:05 p.m.
mj15's pick: New York
Hey, Oakland, sorry about picking you as the losing team in my "Lock of the Week" game last week. Then again, how was I supposed to know that you were going to give some effort. Anyways, about the game: while the win may have given fans hope that maybe this team won't suck, I still don't see them beating the Jets. They still have one of the best defenses in the league and they just can't be good enough to go 3-0, and they straight to 3-4, right? So, while I think this could be yet another close game, I'm still picking the Jets to win and go back to being over .500.
mj50's pick: Oakland

Buffalo Bills vs. Carolina Panthers (-7): Sunday- 3:05 p.m.
mj15's pick: Carolina
How 'bout them Panthers! After staring the season with an unexpected 0-3 record, they have bounced back by winning their last two games and now have a shot to go back to .500. Meanwhile, the Bills have bounced back themselves, coming back from a 13-3 deficit to defeat the Jets 16-13 in overtime last week. Personally, I don't see this as a close game between two 2-3 teams. I see the Panthers rolling in this game. I mean, at least their offense can score two touchdowns.
mj50's pick: Carolina

Chicago Bears vs. Cincinnati Bengals (EVEN): Sunday- 3:15 p.m.
mj15's pick: Chicago
Okay, so maybe the Bears can't play on Sunday nights. Big deal! THey're still 3-0 in day games, 2-0 in 3 o'clock games. Also, Cutler has a passer rating of over 100 in day games and the Benglas don't have their best defensive player for this week. Overall, I see the Bears on top in what should be a very close and entertaining ballgame. I also see Cedric Benson ruhing for 150 yards and 2 TDs and the offensive line of the Bears getting at least 5 false starts penalties (4 from Orlando Pace) and 3 holding calls, though, so I may not be entirely sure about the pick.
mj50's pick: Chicago

New Orleans Saints (-6.5) vs. Miami Dolphins: Sunady- 3:15 p.m.
mj15's pick: Miami
You know what, maybe I was wrong about those Dolphins. The Wildcat is really looking better and sexier than ever (they even have an extra player with Pat White) and Henne has really developed into a good game manager. Personally, I see the confusing scheme of the Dolphins plus the underrated Landshark Stadium homefield advantage handing the Saints their first loss of the year. It should be a great them though, probably one of the best this season.
mj50's pick: New Orleans

Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys (-4): Sunday- 3:15 p.m.
mj15's pick: Atlanta
I still don't see how some think the Cowboys are still good. Sure, they'll win a few games, but they still won't make the playoffs. The defense has declined incredibly. Not to mention Tony Romo has become Jake Delholmme west. Meanwhile, with last wek's loss the Falcons have proven themselves to be serious contenders and the schemes of Mike Smith looks better than ever. I see the Falcons winning this one. Period.
mj50's pick: Dallas

Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Giants (-7): Sunday- 7:20 p.m.
mj15's pick: New York
Interesting fact #1: Since 2005, the Cardinals have been 2-10 in games east of Ohio. Interesting fact #2: the Giants have not lost a regular season game at home against a west coast team since week 1 of the 2002 season! You don't need to know the intangibles and any other stats to know that the Giants will crush their ex-QB Kurt Warner and the Cardinals easily.
mj50's pick: New York

Philadelphia Eagles (-7) vs. Washington Redskins: Monday- 7:30 p.m.
mj15's pick: Philadelphia
You know what I've yet done this week: proclamin that the ___ will beat the ___... BIG. Weird. I usually do it at least five times per post. It's not too late though. So here it goes: I see the Eagles will beat the Redskins... BIG.
mj50's pick: Washington
