Random Thoughts: 12/06/10- 12/09/10

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

The following were on my mind between Monday, December 6th and Thursday, December 9th:

-The song "Baby, It's Cold Outside," is basically about date rape and the song "Santa Baby" is basically about a spoiled gold digger, who I'm pretty sure wants this "Santa" to bang her. You gotta love these 1950s Christmas songs! (That is, if "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is, in fact, a Christmas song).

-From the money that the Nationals spent this week on Jayson Werth (7 years, $126 million) and the deal that they are reported to have offered Cliff Lee, you could swear that Dan Snyder has secretly bought the team.

-
Yes, the Charlie Brown Christmas special is kind of depressing, unfunny, and the animation may be horrible compare to today's standards. However, its the only animated special that I know of or can recall of which annually teaches children and adults alike the true meaning of Christmas (celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, spending time with your friends and family), so there. - You know its a slow news day in the sporting world when the story leading off "Pardon the Interruption" is whether Peyton Manning should be benched if he has another bad game tonight vs. Tennessee.

- Speaking of Christmas related TV programming, here are my top five:
1. "A Christmas Story"
2. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
3. South Park's "Woodland Critter Christmas" (because I'm a sick asshole who has a very dark sense of humor)
4. "It's a Wonderful Life"
5. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"

- Red Sox fans should no longer call the Yankees "the evil empire," especially not after what they have done this week acquiring Carl Crawford through a 7 yr., $142 million deal and Adrian Gonzalez through trade.

- It's still hard to imagine that Howard Cosell was the first to report to a national TV audience (through Monday Night Football, no less) that John Lennon had died 30 yrs. ago (By the way, if you ever get the chance, watch the Outside the Lines piece about how that entire moment came to happen. Gripping stuff). Had it been today, it would have most likely been through hundreds of Twitter followers with statuses like "OMG CAN NOT BELIEVE JOHN LENNON IS DEED. R.I.P."

That's going to do it for now. See you on the flip side!
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
