End of the Week: 11/27/11- 12/03/11

END OF THE WEEK:

After a week off thanks to the Turkey day festivities, End of the Week is back! We have a bit to get to, from Herman Cain resigning to Egypt electing to Daniel Day Lewis being method to the extreme, so let's get started! As always, here are my choices for some of the week's best and/or most memorable people and moments:

Picture of the Week: Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln
Word around the set of the Stephen Spielberg 2012 Lincoln biopic is that Lewis has been wearing that beard and sporting the man's supposed accent since March. In other words, prepare yourself for Lewis's third Oscar victory in March 2013 starting now.

Elections of the Week:
Egypt's First Post-Mubarak Elections
Considering how these elections led to some pretty big protests beforehand and how the nation will remain under the control of military rule, I don't think it's a shock to say that this just a small first step in Egypt's long journey towards true democracy.

Video of the Week:
"Nerdy white kid KILLS 'Look at Me Now' (Mac Lethal)"
Those cannots can no longer be eaten by mere mortals.

Stories of the Week:
-
The Actual Story of the Week: Herman Cain Suspends Campaign Amid Rumors of Affair and Sexual Harassment
Goodnine-nine-nine, sweet prince.
- The Tiger Woods Saga of '09 Memorial Story of the Week: Dr. Conrad Murray Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Involuntary Mansluaghter of Michael Jackson
"Beat it": Michael Jackson song, something that Conrad Murray couldn't do with his charges.

This Week in OCCUPY: This week, America's most notorious current movement celebrated its 75th day of existence! And how did they celebrate? Oh, just with the usual slate of arrests and police fighting, of course! On Wednesday, the 'Occupy' protests in both the cities of Los Angeles and Philadelphia got into some contact with their respective polices after each failed to cooperate with the end of their deadline. Over 200 were reportedly arrested inside LA's City Hall, leaving onto a few remaining tents and some debris, while in Philly the official clearing of the camp site in Dilworth Plaza near City Hall occured in the early morning hours, with a few people who parted ways of the area to start a march received arrests of their own. These two evacuations are just two of many other examples in the past few weeks of the movement having many of their sites cleared out city by city (you might also remember that Zuchotti Park got cleared a mere two weeks ago).

Overall, that pretty much seems to be the only major story to come out of this movement this week (probably the slowest news week yet in regards to "Occupy"). In other news, demonstrators involved with "Occupy Wall Street" began a hunger strike to show support with the protests today, while over 200 gathered around the Metropolitan Opera on Friday (including composer Phillip Glass) in a spin-off of "Occupy Wall Street" titled "Occupy Lincoln Center," and some guy who was arrested as a result of OWS complained about a NYPD officer who stole his pizza while jailed (here's the New York Post with their totally unbiased review of the story). Otherwise, that's pretty much it.

We're currently into week 11 of the movement, and while many of their past sites have evacuated, many still say that the movement will continue to go on. As a result, I will be back next week with more. In the meantime, here's Miley Cyrus's new song dedicated in support of "Occupy Wall Street," a song in which many are calling its current anthem. It's...interesting.

Person of the Week:
"NBC Nightly News" Anchor Brian Williams
for proving once again why he just might be the best newscaster on the air right now on the show's November 29th telecast. From the first minute on of the show, a fire alarm went off inside the show's studio inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and kept going throughout the entire telecast. But did any of this shake Williams' cool and irreplaceable charm, or stop him from delivering the rest of the news that night? Nope. He continued to finish the broadcast, story after story, report after report, all while looking like what many people would refer to as "a God damn professional" and acting as if the fire alarm wasn't even there, even after the sirens turned to whoops and seemingly got progressively louder. Well done , Mr. Williams (as if there weren't enough reasons for me to think you're great)!

And that's the way it was! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everybody!
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
