"House Hunters" Is Fake, The Chuck E. Cheese Redesign, and More On the Youkilis Trade

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

The following were on my mind between Monday, July 2nd and Monday, July 9th:

-It's strange how a high 80s, partly cloudy day in the summer can feel like a pleasant autumn afternoon after you've just experienced three straight days living in a city with triple digit temperatures.

-Geez, no wonder the reality show "House Hunters" is fake. I watched three hours of that show this past week, and in almost every episode that I saw there were people complaining that they didn't like the house because of the paint color. Nobody can be that stupid in real life, can they?

-I'm guessing the pitch meeting for the new Chuck E. Cheese redesign went something like this:
Executive #1: "We at [Chuck E. Cheese] want a [rat] with attitude. He's edgy. He's in your face. You've heard the expression 'let's get busy?' Well, this a [rat] that get 'biz-zay!' Consistently and thoroughly."
Executive #2: "So he's proactive, huh?"
Executive #1: "Oh God, yes! We're talking about a totally outrageous paradigm."

-It really isn't until you take a good look at all the various NASA space photos that you realize just how tiny and insignificant you are compared to the rest of this great and collective whole that is our universe.

-Aaron Sorkin's themes and message in "The Newsroom" is about as subtle as a country music song. This, along with it's self importance and the poorly written romance subplots are keeping this thing from turning itself, in my mind, from a mediocre show to a good one. Oh well, none of this will matter next Sunday anyway. Once "Breaking Bad" returns, I'll probably just DVR it and not watch the episodes until weeks after they air anyways.

-White Sox general manager Kenny Williams really appears more like a genius every day with the Kevin Youkilis trade from a few weeks back. Even if Youkilis had only ended up playing average baseball, it still would've been considered a great move because it at least solidified a third base position that was previously filled with guys who couldn't hit above the Mendoza line. But not only has Youkilis since the trade played well for Chicago, he has played some terrific, rejuvenating baseball that Red Sox fans had wished he had earlier in the year, batting .358 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 8 runs scored. This also includes a seven game RBI streak, a walk off single, the award for AL Player of the Week, as well as some pretty great plays on defense. Sure, this move will probably not have any major effect beyond this year, but as long as Youkilis (whose "Youk" nickname has become embraces among the Sox faithful) remains consistent and help take the team to the playoffs and beyond, I don't think that most fans would mind. I guess it really goes to show just how much good can be brought from going to a team in which you were battling to play every game (like he did in Boston with newcomer Will Middlebrook) to a team that has full faith in your ability.

More of what is now becoming a scare amount of "Random Thoughts" columns continues next Monday. In the meantime, have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
