The Best Movies to Watch on Halloween & "End of the Month" (a.k.a Blog #40)

align="center">"This is Halloween
everybody make a scene,
Trick or treat
'till the neighbors die of fright,
It's our town, everyobdy scream,
In this town of Halloween.
"

Happy Halloween, everyone! Yes, sir, it's that time of the year again, where horror, candy and costumes reign supreme. It's the one day of the year where you can dress up as whatever the hell you want or still deciding depending on your circumstance (Deadspin has some good tips on sports related costumes), watch enough scary movies until you think everyone's trying to kill you and eat more candy in one day then a non-American eats in a year.
Speaking of scary movies, this is probably the one time of the year where if you don't watch at least somthing scary on TV, DVD or in the movies you probably are a loser. So, in that case, here are the five horror movies or horror-related movies that you have to see if you didn't have plans to do so:

1. "Halloween" (1978)

The true definition of an American horror film. Besides, it's called "Halloween," so how can't you watch it on 10/31.

2. "Shaun of the Dead" (2004)

Do you feel like watching a movie is as much blood, gore and suspense as a regular horror movie, but it's not really a horror movie? Do you feel like seeing a zombie movie as good as the one George A.Romero made, but funny? This movie, which you can watch right now by going to the bottom of yesterday's ":End of the Week" column, is for you!

3. "The Shining" (1980)

This Stanley Kubrick directed horror film was so good, it was nominated for an Oscar. Besides, who doesn't like a story about a homicidal dad who wants to kill his family in a scary hotel.

4. "The Exorcist" (1973)

This movie is for those people who really want to be creeped the sh*t out of. In fact, you just might want to hold a cross on your arms while you're sleeping after seeing this movie.

5. "A Nightmare on Elm Street"/"Saw"/"Friday the 13th"
Take your pick on this one. Either movie you choose will be a good one.

Other Possibilities:
- "Rosemary's Baby"
- "Scary Movie"
- "Scream"
- Any Japanese horror film
- One of the George A. Romero "Dead" trilogy
- The Steve Bartman clip (for Cubs fans)

Speaking of 10/31, not only is it "Halloween," but it's also the final day in the month of October. So, in honor of that, here's a recap of some of the best moments of the last thirty-one days in "End of the Month":

END OF THE MONTH:

Stories of the Month:
- The Lamest: The Balloon Boy Story
I've already said a plenty of this. I'm just glad that we've gone a whole week without hearing of the family. I thought their fifteen minutes would last a couple of more weeks.
- The Saddest:
Oklahoma University QB Sam Bradford Ops for Season Ending Surgery and the NFL Draft
The kid just wanted to play one more season in college. One more! He didn't care about the possible $43 million guaranteed he could've had with the Lions or the glory of being the draft's number one pick. He just wanted to help his team win the national championship they lost last year. Instead the football gods punish him by giving him two elbow injuries in two out of the three games he played this season. However, if this tought people anything, it's to rethink about possibly stay in school, kids.
- The Most Interesting: Baseball Analyst Steve Phillips Fired By ESPN Over Affair with ESPN Assistant
Oh well, at least shw was hot (not really)

Revelation of the Month: Newborn puppies can umpire the MLB playoffs better than the umpires we already have.

Videos of the Month:
-
The Funniest: "Drunkest Guy Ever Goes Back for More Beer"
If there's one thing we learned after watching this, it's that to never give up.

- The Most Awesome-est: "I Threw It On the Ground"
Long live Andy Samberg! Long live Andy Samberg!

Person of the Month:
Mayumi Heene
for finally admitting that the whole "Balloon Boy" story was a hoax, and that her son Falcon wasn't really on that UFO thingy (http://www.ivillage.com/mom-admits-balloon-boy-was-all-hoax/1-a-61208). Because of you, the family's plan for more promotion as well as more time on the spotlight was ended correctly and in the right way. If it wasn't for you, we'd still be talking about whether if it was a hoax or not today.

Hope you enjoyed this post. I'll be back Monday for a weekend recap of all my random thoughts. Until then, I hope you enjoy the rest of your Halloween as well another good Sunday tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
