Jon and Kate Plus 2009 NFL Picks- Week 8

Just so you know, I've waited to
write this title since I thought of this NFL picks column, showing you
how lame I really am.
Anyways, so I had a little improvement a last week over the week before, finishing with a 8-5 record (one better than last week), including
the Philly-Redskins game in which mj50 picked the Skins, so I won the
week in picks for the fifth time this season as well as picking my
overall record to 68-35. Let's hope the good times keep on
rollin' with this week's picks, which actually had more than two games
that I took a while to decide.

Let's begin (as always, the starting game times are based on the Central time zone):

Houston Texans (-3.5) vs. Buffalo Bills: Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Houston

Yes, sir, my my slightly unexplainable Texans train is still riding.
4-3 and currently a playoff contender. And while I have been impressed
with the last two weeks by Buffalo, their offense is still ranked 24th
in the league, which will not cut it against the 13th best offense in
the league in Houston. I see Matt Schaub (who by the way is leading the
league in TDs) crushing the Bills D with or without Andre Johnson (who
we all hope the best in his recovery). Texans win... BIG.
mj50's pick: Houston

Cleveland Browns vs. Chicago Bears
(-13.5): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Chicago

There's nothing better than for the struggling Bears to get back in
shape against the poor Cleveland Browns. I'm not saying it's a week off
for Chicago, but it's a better chance for them to win then next week
against the defending NFC Champions Arizona Cardinals. Plus, I heard
that the Bears will be wearing the alternate orange jersey in which
they've only lost once while wearing it. Bears win... BIG.
mj50's pick: Chicago

Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys
(-9.5): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Dallas

Sooo... are we supposed to think now that the Cowboys are a good team?
For me, I still don't knwo what to think of them. On one hand, the
offense and Tony Romo have improved since Miles Austin became a
starter. On the other hand, this is the same Dallas team that were
mediocre at best during the first quarter of the season. The debate
will continue later. For now, I'm picking Dallas to win their third
straight game because of the whole West Coast team at 12:00 p.m. games
theory and because Seattle's defense really sucks this year.
mj50's pick: Dallas

St. Louis Rams
vs. Detroit Lions (-4): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Detroit

Weird seeing the Lions as the favorite going into a game, huh?
Especially for me, since I haven't picked the Lions to win any game
since week 1 of the 2007 season (yes, I do keep my sheets from years
past). But, come on, at least Detroit is actually competitive in their
games. When was te last time the Rams didn't lose in a blowout? My poin
t exactly. Th Lions will win... (also) BIG.
mj50's pick: Detroit

San Fransisco 49ers vs. Indianapolis Colts
(-12.5): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Indianapolis
Not much to explain with my pick, except that the Colts haven't lost at home since week 3 of last season and the whole West Coast team at 12:00 p.m. theory as mentioned in my Seattle/ Dallas game pick. Besides, who are you gonna pick as the game's best QB, Peyton Manning who has thrown at least 300 yards every game this season, or Alex Smith? I thought so.
mj50's pick: Indianapolis

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets
(-3): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Miami
After the last time these two teams met this season, Jets coach Rex Ryan called Miami's wildcat a gimmick. I'm pretty sure that it stook in Tony Sparano's head to this day, which will make his team more aware and prepared for the game. Not to mention the fact that Miami's #2 ranked rushing offense is taking on New York's #22 ranked rushing defense. In conclusion, I'm taking Miami in what should be another close one in this AFC East Rivalry.
mj50's pick: Miami

Denver Broncos vs. Baltimore Ravens
(-3.5): Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Baltimore
All right, I admit it: I'm officially on the Denver bandwagon. The defense is great, Kely Orton is the same game manager as he was with the Bears, and the rest of the fundamentals is really clicking. Besides, I never reaaly hated the Broncos, just their fans. However, no way that a team as talented as Baltimore would play at home, with an extra week to prepare and already on a dissapointing 3 game losing streak, and lose yet again. In other words, the bandwagon jump will officially start next week, just not this week.
mj50's pick: Baltimore

New York Giants
(-1) vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Sunday- 12:00 p.m.
mj15's pick: Philadelphia
This is what I'm talking about! The first true rivalry game this season between two teamsthat hate each other and two cities that hate each other even more, fighting for first place in the toughtest division in football with playoff implications. On one side, the Giants, still one of the best teams in football despite the two game lsing streak. The other, the Eagles, a team with a very high octane offense and also one of the best teams in the NFC. It was truly a tough game for me to pick.
In the end, though, I had to go with the Eagles. They're at home in a city already fueled up by their Phillies in the World Series. Not to mention the fact that this is the first time this season that Eli Manning wil be playing in rainy conditions, a condition which he asn't played very well in lately.
mj50's pick: New York

Oakland Raiders vs. San Diego Chargers
(-16.5): Sunday- 3:05 p.m.
mj15's pick: San Diego
After the surpriingly good performance against the Eagles, the Raiders thankfully went back to Earth last week as the pathetic littleteam in the Bay Area that they are. Personally, I don't see how you can't go against the Chargers. They've won their last 11 against Oakland (including their last 7 games against Oakland at home). Chargers will win... BIG.
mj50's pick:

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans
(-3): Sunday- 3:05 p.m.
mj15's pick: Tennessee
Guess what everybody, Vince Young is the starting QB for the Titans! That's right, the emotionally disordered former Texas Longhorn you know and love is back. Personally, I believe is a great move. You can bad mouth Young, but he has a winning record as a starter. Plkus, he went 8-4 while winning the offensive rookie of the year award the last time he started over Kerry Collins midseason. In fact, I believe that the move is so great that it'll be the one deciding factor that will give the Titans their first win of the last season. Count on it!
mj50's pick: Tennessee

Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers
(-3): Sunday- 3:15 p.m.
mj15's pick: Green Bay
Boy, talk about an awkward reunion! In part II of the Brett Favre Bowl, we have the 6-1 Vikings against the 4-2 Packers. The only difference between this matchup and the last matchup is that the game will be played in Green Bay, where Favre played sixteen years before retiring and then unretiring to the Jets in 2008. Like the Giants/ Eagles game, I too have thought about this long and hard. In the end, I believe that the fact that the Packers will be playing in home court, and not in the hostile Metrodome, plus the fact that Aaron Rodgers is the beter QB at this point is why I'm yet again picking the Vikings to win and tie them in the NFC North. However, this is based on the belief that Jared Allen won' rape the entire O-line of the Packers like last time.
mj50's pick: Green Bay

Carolina Panthers vs. Arizona Cardinals
(-10): Sunday- 3:15 p.m.
mj15's pick: Arizona
Arizona owned the Panthers in the divisional playoofs last year, and they owned the Panthers in their regular season matchup last season. They've also returned to their 2008 season form. I'm taking the Cardinals over the Panthers... BIG.
mj50's pick: Arizona

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints (-10.5): Monday- 7:30 p.m.
mj15's pick: Atlanta
I believe in the SI Cover Jinx!
mj50's pick: New Orleans
