Random Thoughts: 09/30/10- 10/04/10

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

The following were on my mind between Thursday, September 30th and Monday, October 4th:

- Quick MLB Playoff predictions:
ALDS
Tampa Bay over Texas in 5
New York over Minnesota in 4
NLDS
Philadelphia over Cincinnati in 4
San Fransisco over Atlanta in 5
ALCS
Tampa Bay over New York in 6
NLCS
Philadelphia over San Fransisco in 5
World Series
Philadelphia over Tampa Bay in 6
Now, obviously, the pitching for the Phillies was the ultimate decider for me, as I'm sure it must have been for many who have already made their playoff predictions. After all, how can you get better than soon to be 2010 NL Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay as as their #1, 2008 NLCS and World Series MVP Cole Hamels as their #2, and Roy Oswalt, who is 4-0 as a starter in the postseason, as their #3? Anyways, as long as the Yankees and Twins don't win the World Series, then I will be just fine with whatever happens.

- If the White Sox can resign Paul Konerko and getting a good left handed hitter to bat behind Konerko and Rios, then I will be just fine with whatever else they do in the offseason.

- I really hope AMC renews "Rubicon" despite its horrible ratings. At first I was a bit peeved by it because the promos made it out to be a conspiracy thriller where all it really was was a slow moving, 1970s style political thriller. But as I kept watching the show, I began to love it for reasons other than the conspiracy (which was finally revealed in last night's terrific episode). It's well-written, the cinematography is one of the best on TV, its characters are fascinating, the acting is fascinating and its almost like a thinking man's TV show. Also, Kale Ingram is the most bad-ass gay character I've ever seen on TV. Hopefully, this will be enough to convince AMC to give just one more season. If not...well, then it looks like this show will just end up being a 13 episode miniseries instead that, hopefully, people whodidn't watch it during its run will watch it on DVD and regret watching it too late (kind of like when I first watched "Arrested Development" on Hulu in 2009, 3 yrs. after its series finale). Either way, I have enjoyed it very much.

- I still can't believe that Chargers general manager A.J. Smith hasn't traded Vincent Jackson. The offense is already doing good without him (ranked #1 overall last time I checked), plus Jackson doesn't even want to be there. Why he is still keeping him on the roster is beyond stupid.

- I sure hope TBS doesn't ruin my anticipation for "Conan" by constantly running its promos during the MLB playoffs that they did with "Frank TV" and "Lopez Tonight." I want to be excited that it is premiering on November 8th, not hate it before it even airs.

- Can't believe that I left off the eccentric Phil Davidson video off of September's "End of the Month." Oh, well, better late than ever. Here now as a bonus entry to September's videos of the month, "Phil Davidson, GOP Candidate, Delivers Stark County Treasurer Speech 9/8/2010." Did you know that he lost? I haven't been this shocked since when Basil Marceaux lost the Tennessee governor's primary!

And that's about it for now. See you in three days, everyone!
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
