RANDOM THOUGHTS:
Did you enjoy your Columbus Day weekend? What's that? You didn't have a day off today?!?! Well then, hopefully these new random thoughts could be a nice consolation prize instead. The following were on my mind between Thursday, October 8th and Thursday, October 11th:
- I would hate to have Les Miles as the head of my favorite football team. Sure he led the '07 LSU team to a national championship, but there would be some point when I just won't stand all his crazy FG fakes and questionable coaching decisions. I'm pretty sure that some LSU football fans are already feeling this way about him right now, too.
- Jay Pharaoh on "Saturday Night Live" has been quite the revelation. His impressions of Denzel Washington and Will Smith have been so good up to this point that you could close your eyes and actually be made to believe that you are listening to the actual people that he is impersonating. He also does a great Barack Obama impression, which makes me wonder why the show still has Fred Armisen impersonating the President. After all, the show had a bunch of people do Bush after Will Ferrell left until they settled on Will Forte and Armisen's Obama has just not been as great as Pharaoh's should be.
- I still can't believe that I got a chance to actually watch Roy Halladay's postseason no-hitter against the Reds on Wednesday. All my life I have been told and shown black-and-white video of Don Larsen's perfect game and how it was never repeated before in MLB history. Then, here was Halladay on Wednesday night actually throwing a no-hitter live...in the 21st Century...in color...and in HD! I hate to still say this phrase, but how cool is that? Let's just say that that will be something that I will never forget seeing.
- God dammit, Minnesota Twins! If you're going to keep beating my White Sox for the AL Central 85% of the time, then at least win an ALDS series for once! Ass holes.
- Why don't the Panthers have their logo at midfield in Bank of America Stadium instead of the NFL? I would understand that with the Giants and the Jets since they share New Meadowlands Stadium, but as far as I'm told there is no other NFL team that uses Bank of America Stadium, so why is it that they still have the NFL logo in midfield after all of these years?
- You know that things are going really bad in San Fransisco when 49ers fans are chanting for David Carr to replace Alex Smith as their starting QB. I don't know whether to pity them or to strangle them for chanting such a stupid thing as "We want Carr!" in the first place. (http://deadspin.com/5661216/the-single-saddest-moment-of-the-nfl-season)
- I wish that I had never found out the real identity of Cigar Guy. The fact that he is, in real life, an English investment analyst with a face that is completely from that which he dressed up as in the Ryder Cup makes the Mark Pain photo loses its value to me.
(thinking)
Oh, who am I kidding! Investment analyst or not, I still love the meme just the same! Long live Cigar Guy!
-Wow! What an awesome and simultaneously dark couch gag from "The Simpsons" last night courtesy of Banksy! You could even say that it was maybe one of their best couch gags of the past five years. (http://www.hulu.com/watch/184819/the-simpsons-banksy-opening)
- I forgot to talk about the Randy Moss trade from last week so here is my late thought on it: the Patriots aren't just going to keep the 3rd round pick that they got for him, are they? After all, Wes Welker is great, but with Moss gone defenses will just start double covering him without fear of a great WR like Moss to worry about as the Patriots deep-threat. In my opinion, they should go after Vincent Jackson for that pick. Jackson's contract also expires after this season, so the Patriots don't have to keep him if he ends up being a bust in that system. Also, Jackson doesn't want to be in SD anymore and I bet A.J. Smith is starting to consider trading him much more than he did a few weeks back. Oh, and if the Brady-Moss hair spat is in fact true and that was one of the main reasons why New England traded Moss, then that is one lame way to start asking other teams to trade a player.
New random thoughts should come next Thursday. Enjoy the start of your work week until then! Oh, and a late happy 70th birthday to the late, great John Lennon. The world stills misses you, my good man.
Sincerely,
Your pal: mj15
